What is a blackhead?
Dead skin cells and sebum/oils can collect in hair follicles. The congestion results in small bumps. Once the compaction is exposed to the air, it will turn black. This is a blackhead. The reason these congested bumps are called blackheads is because the surface of them usually looks dark or black.
What causes blackheads?
- Using make-up that doesn’t suit your skin
- Using products that are too heavy for your skin or products that contain a lot of oils
- Not removing your cleanser thoroughly
- Not exfoliating
How can I get rid of blackheads?
To prevent and treat blackheads, use a product that contains Salicylic Acid. Salicylic Acid gets deep into your pores and mops up any excess oil. When introducing Salicylic Acid to your skin routine, start with just a few nights a week. Use after cleansing.
My pick would be the Glo Clear Complexion Pads. These are suited to all skin types except dry or very sensitive skin. Clear Complexion Pads are formulated with a potent 5% Salicylic Acid to penetrate and exfoliate congested skin. You simply wipe them over the skin. They will gently break down excess oil, tone and balance oily skin and help prevent the growth of acne-causing bacteria. These are also a great exfoliant.
Finally, be mindful of the products you put on your face everyday. Ask yourself is your moisturizer very heavy? Is your make-up a mineral make-up or a heavy liquid?
